Happy New Year!

What's local or home-grown in January?

  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Parsnip
  • Swede
  • Turnip
  • Leeks
  • Cauliflower
  • Kale, red & green
  • Cabbage, green, white & red
  • Artichoke, Jerusalem
  • Herbs - parsley
  • Salad leaf
  • Living Salad

What's Growing this month?

Red Mustard growing in the tunnels, part of our salad leaf selectionFortunately the land is much drier than it was a year ago,  and  the soil inside our polytunnels remains very workable, and we have been able to prepare some beds in time for the first of the 2009 crops.

We're ready to start sowing the chillis and and a new crop of parsley, and we've bought some more Fertile Fibre Organic Seed Compost which we first used last year - it is peat-free based on coir, and approved by the Soil Association

There will continue to be a good assortment of locally-grown root crops and greens available for the next few months, plus a little more salad leaf and parsley from our tunnels until spring arrives and it decides to bolt!

Annual Inspection

Our annual inspection by the Soil Association took place on 12 January and went very smoothly, culminating with the inspector concluding that Goosemoor is a 'very well-run horticultural operation', and found no cause for concern with either the production or the processing aspects of our business.  Phew!
