Mad March!

Fairtrade Fortnight 2008

The Fairtrade Mark on Green & Black's organic cocoa TE453Fairtrade Fortnight runs this year until 9 March, and highlights the benefits to both producers and consumers of trading fairly.  Consumers benefit by having great-tasting food, with the knowledge that more of the price paid is passed on to the grower.  Plus with Goosemoor, you have the added benefit of choosing organic and fairtrade at the same time!

Fairtrade Facts

  • Green & Blacks Maya Gold chocolate was the first product to carry the Fairtrade Mark in 1994

  • Goosemoor has sold only Fairtrade organic bananas for many years, and when available we have Fairtrade organic pineapple, mango, grapes and oranges plus many groceries such as tea, coffee and chocolate

  • Tate & Lyle announced on 23-2-2008 that they are to switch all their retail branded sugar to Fairtrade by the end of 2009

Easter arrangements

All our deliveries will take place exactly as usual over Easter - we will be working on Good Friday & Easter Monday to avoid any disruption to you all

The only change to the normal arrangements is that we need your orders for grocery items from Suma (eg yogurts, tofu etc) in on Friday 21 March to guarantee delivery for the week after Easter.  Orders for Lye Cross cheese, milk, eggs, fruit & veg are not affected, and our usual deadlines apply

Ethical Indulgement...

Green & Blacks organic easter eggsThere is no shortage of sugary, fatty, lindane-contaminated chocolate treats in the shops at Easter, so if you are going to indulge your family, make it the healthiest and the most ethical you can, and buy organic Easter eggs

Green & Blacks 100g eggs are £2.90 each, and available in Milk, White, Dark and Maya Gold chocolate

Montezuma also does a fabulous range of chocolate creations including White, Milk and Dark Cheeky Bunnies for £3.85

Ask for a copy of our Grocery Popu-List if you want to see the full range of organic groceries available from Goosemoor.

What’s Growing this month?

Landcress plants growing through mulch matting in the tunnelIn the herb garden the perennial herbs are coming back into growth - the chives will soon be ready for cutting, but the bronze fennel, lovage, mint and sage will need a little more time

The greenhouse is choc-a-bloc with trays of seedlings. and potted transplants including  parsley & chillis.  We're growing 3 varieties of chilli this year, ranging from relatively mild to positively incendiary!

In the tunnels we've sown thousands of French Breakfast radishes to harvest from the end of April; and we're in the process of planting out lots of herbs and salad leaf (like the landcress above)

We managed to recover Tunnel 3 at the end of February in a quiet moment between the gales, and so far the cover remains intact!  Hopefully Tunnel 5 will follow suit in the next week or so - if not we're going to have a lot of homeless cucumbers!
