Spring Vegetable Bonanza!

Young salad leaf in tunnelThe 2007 crop of UK potatoes and carrots has now come to an end, so we are currently bringing in French new potatoes until the 2008 UK season kicks off, possibly by the end of June.  However the early UK crops are very expensive, so savour them in small mouthfuls!

Meanwhile there's plenty of UK lettuces becoming available, with spring greens, broad beans and bunched onions following on

What's local or home-grown in June?

  • Broad beans
  • Bunched onions
  • Spring greens
  • Summer cabbage
  • Herbs
  • Salad leaf
  • Lettuce
  • Living Salad
  • Cucumber

Other UK produce available:

  • Beansprouts
  • Cabbage white & red
  • Cauliflower
  • Leeks
  • Tomatoes, cherry, plum, round, all both on and off the vine
  • Mushrooms
  • Watercress

Goodbye David, and Hello Susan

After 11 years as bookkeeper, David Vardy has left Goosemoor to pursue a career as an independent financial advisor.  He joined us when the office was in our sitting room, and we depended on a crackly old CB radio to communicate across the lane to the packing shed.  David was our first full-time employee, and in the late 1990's his contribution helped us to achieve our spectacular early growth, and later to consolidate our position as the leading regional distributor of organic food to the independent sector.  We wish him every success in his new venture

Susan Young has taken over the role, and will be responsible for chasing up late payers (you know who you are!), and then recycling your money to our suppliers.  You can contact her on susan@goosemoor.info

Mature Cheddar special promotion

Gloucester cows at Lye Cross FarmDuring June, Lye Cross mature Cheddar prepacks will be supplied as 320g for the price of 245g - that's 30% extra free!

You don't need to do anything to benefit from this promotion, as the larger packs will be sent out automatically whilst stocks last

What’s Growing this month?

Cucumbers in flower and setting fruit in the tunnelsIn the polytunnels the cucumbers and chillis have all been planted out.  Some of the cucumbers already have 5 or 6 fruits per plant, but the chillies are only just in flower and haven't yet set any fruit

Many of the plants in the herb garden are now doing their best to flower and set seed - the coriander especially is a lost cause at this time of year, as we barely get a single picking before the plants stop producing leaves completely.  By contrast, sowings made after the Solstice will crop until next spring!
